Why you will love this recipe!

  • Simple ingredients: You just need potatoes, bacon and a few seasonings that you’ll likely already have in your pantry.
  • Easy: This is a great no fuss potato side dish! Simple to prep and cook, they are ready to serve in no time at all.
  • Make ahead: These are a great make ahead side dish. They reheat quickly and perfectly in the air fryer.
  • Healthier: This is definitely a healthier cooking method compared to oven roasting. As the bacon renders down, the fat drips away from the potatoes and collects in the basket holder. When you oven roast them, the potatoes will sit it the fat.
  • Dietary Info: These air fryer bacon wrapped potatoes are dairy-free and gluten-free.

Ingredients

  • Potatoes: Use baby potatoes for this recipe. They don’t need to be par-boiled before wrapping in bacon and they require very little prep – no peeling required!
  • Oil: A little oil helps the potatoes to cook more evenly and helps them to brown.
  • Seasonings: Salt, garlic powder and black pepper. The potatoes are seasoned before wrapping in bacon to add additional flavor.
  • Bacon: Use thin, not thick, bacon strips so that they cook quickly. Use a natural bacon with fewest added ingredients.

Recipe Variations

This simple recipe for bacon wrapped potatoes is easy to adapt to suit your tastes. I used salt, pepper and garlic to season the potatoes, but you can add other favorites like dried herbs, paprika or onion powder. For a sweeter taste, try drizzling over a little maple syrup, or sprinkle over some brown sugar before air frying.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to cook bacon wrapped potatoes in the air fryer?

These potatoes are done when the bacon is crispy and the potatoes are tender. In my 6qt basket air fryer, this took 18 minutes. Depending on the type and model of air fryer you have, this may vary slightly, check them at 15 minutes to be on the safe side, and plan for up to 20 minutes. If you are using whole baby potatoes or larger chopped potatoes, then the cooking time will be slightly longer.

Can you oven roast them instead of air frying?

Sure! If you don’t have an air fryer, then roasting these potatoes in the oven will yield great results. You will need to roast the bacon wrapped potatoes at 400F / 200c for around 40 minutes.

What are the best potatoes to use for this recipe?

I like to make this recipe with baby potatoes, you just need to cut them in half, wrap them in bacon and you are ready to cook them. For best results, avoid starchy potatoes like Yukon Gold and Russet as these have a softer texture and may fall apart. Waxy potatoes like fingerlings and reds can also be used for this recipe.

You can wrap the potatoes with the bacon a few hours ahead of cooking and keep them covered in the fridge. Once cooked, the potatoes will keep well for two days in an airtight container in the fridge. They can be reheated in the air fryer at 400F / 200c for 4 to 5 minutes to serve. Reheating in the air fryer will get the bacon nice and crispy again.

Recipe notes and Tips

  • Baby potatoes are best to use for this recipe. Other waxy potatoes can be used, but avoid starchy potatoes.
  • Soak the toothpicks in a bowl of water for 5 to 10 minutes before using them. This will prevent them from burning during cooking.
  • Place the bacon wrapped potatoes in a single layer in the air fryer. Depending on how many you are making, and how big your air fryer is, you may have to cook them in two batches. The potatoes will hold their heat well, but you can keep the first batch warm in the oven while you cook the second batch if you wish.
