Recipe Variations

This baked garlic bread recipe is delicious as it is, but if you like, try adding some grated parmesan, shredded mozzarella or cheddar to the butter for a cheesy bite. The addition of dried herbs like basil or oregano would make an excellent add in too.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you use pickled jalapenos?

For this recipe I prefer to use fresh roasted jalapenos. I find they have a fresher taste and the pickled ones are more acidic. You can of course use pickled ones if you prefer though.

Can you use garlic powder instead of fresh?

Freshly minced garlic will have a much stronger more vibrant flavor, and unless you can’t avoid it I highly recommend sticking with fresh. In a pinch, if you do need to use garlic powder, you’ll want to use about a teaspoon.

Do you have to use a French baguette?

I love the jalapeno garlic butter on a French baguette, but you can spread it on other types of bread and bake it.

Make Ahead and Storage

This jalepeno garlic bread is best served as soon as it’s baked, but leftovers will keep of a day or two and can be reheated in the oven at 350F / 180c for a few minutes to warm through.

You can butter the bread and wrap it in foil a couple of hours before you want to bake it. Keep it at room temperature before you are ready to place in the oven.

You can freeze the baguette after spreading the butter over it. Store in a freezer safe bag for up to 3 months. Cook right from frozen as per the recipe, but add 3 to 5 minutes of additional baking time.

Recipe Notes and Tips

  • Make this recipe vegan by using a plant-based butter.
  • When slicing the baguette, take care not to cut all the way through. Cut the slices about 3/4 of the way down the loaf so that it stays in tact.
  • Cut the slices about an inch thick. Cut them on the diagonal for a larger surface area.
  • Use a flat knife to spread and stuff the butter into the slices. Be generous, the butter makes it delicious!
  • Wrap the foil tightly around the bread so that it is fully sealed.
  • If you prefer a crispier bite, unwrap the foil for the last couple of minutes of baking to toast the baguette.
