Frozen Edamame Beans Recipe

Made with frozen edamame beans, this Asian inspired side dish is full of vibrant flavors. Cooked with garlic, ginger, chili and soy sauce, this and easy recipe is ready to serve in less than 10 minutes.

Frozen edamame beans are a great veggie to have to hand in your freezer, if they are something you don’t usually buy, go grab a bag now, I promise you’ll use them all the time!
This edamame side dish is inspired by Chinese cuisine, with flavors of fresh ginger and garlic, a little red chili for some added spice and wonderfully rich and salty soy sauce.
With some very basic prep, this vegetable side comes together so quickly all in one skillet on the stovetop and it’s a delicious accompaniment to lots of different mains.

Ingredients Notes
- Garlic, chili and ginger: For the best results, use fresh ingredients. Finely chop and mince them so that mix well with the cooked beans. You can use ready to use pre-minced ingredients if you prefer to cut down on prep time.
- Soy sauce: This gives a rich umami and salty flavor to the finished dish. Use dark rather than light for the best flavor.
- Edamame beans: Frozen edamame beans require no prep and cook quickly.

- Soften the garlic, chili and ginger in a skillet with the soy sauce (photo 1).
- Add in the frozen beans (photo 2).
- Stir and cook til the beans are cooked through (photo 3).

Recipe Variations
Make this recipe gluten free by using Tamari sauce rather than soy sauce. Adjust the amount of red chili according to your tastes, or skip it altogether if you don’t enjoy spicy foods. You can use fresh edamame beans rather than frozen if you have them to hand. They will require slightly less cooking time.

Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon oil (canola, vegetable or avocado)
- 1 fresh red chili (minced)
- 1 clove fresh garlic (minced)
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger (minced)
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 cups frozen edamame beans (250g)
Instructions
- Heat the oil on the stovetop on a medium high heat.1 teaspoon oil
- Once hot, add in the chili, garlic, ginger and soy sauce.1 fresh red chili, 1 clove fresh garlic, 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- Cook for a couple of minutes, stirring occasionally, til they have softened.
- Add the edamame beans to the skillet.2 cups frozen edamame beans
- Stir everything together. Cook for around 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, til the beans are cooked through, but still have a little bite to them.
