Why you will love this recipe!
- Simple ingredients: You’ll just need to get fresh mushroom and garlic, it’s more than likely you’ll have the other ingredients already to hand.
- No fuss: Simple and quick to prep and the cooking time is virtually hands off.
- So tasty! We seriously can not stop eating these, they are a great way to add some flavor to your plate!
- Dietary info: These air fryer garlic mushrooms are vegetarian and gluten-free, as well as being low carb and keto friendly.
Ingredients
- Mushrooms: This recipe works great with cremini or white mushrooms. I like to use sliced mushrooms, you can buy them whole and slice them, or buy them already prepped and sliced to save time.
- Garlic: Dice or mince the garlic. Use fresh garlic, not a paste or pre-minced, for the best flavor.
- Oil: Oil helps the mushrooms to cook more evenly and helps the garlic flavor to penetrate. Use an oil with a high smoke point and that is neutral in flavor, like avocado, canola or sunflower.
- Salted butter: This makes the mushrooms much richer and more flavorful. It’s worth the extra calories!
- Salt and pepper
I always like to garnish the cooked mushrooms with fresh herbs. Parsley is a classic option, but tarragon or basil work very well too!

Frequently Asked Questions
If you don’t have an air fryer, the best next option is to make these on the stovetop. Heat the oil and butter in a skillet on a medium heat, and once hot add the mushrooms and garlic and season. Cook, stirring occasionally, til done to your liking. I love the air fryer method as it is pretty much hands off.
Most fresh mushrooms can be used in this recipe. I used sliced cremini mushrooms, but portobellos, white button or shitake will all work well.
I much prefer the flavor of fresh garlic in this recipe, but you can substitute it for powder in a pinch. One clove of garlic is equal to 1/4 teaspoon of powdered, so you will need 1 teaspoon in this recipe.
Serving Suggestions
I can enjoy these air fryer garlic mushrooms with pretty much anything, but they are especially great as a side for steak or chicken. I also love them on some toasted bread with a poached egg for a delicious brunch! They are a delicious topping for homemade burgers too!
Make Ahead, Storage and Reheating
These mushrooms are best served as soon as they are cooked, but any leftovers will keep well, covered in the fridge for 2 to 3 days. They can be reheated in the air fryer at 380F / 190c for 3 to 5 minutes to warm through.
Recipe Notes and Tips
- Don’t slice the mushrooms too thinly. They contain a lot of water, so will shrink in size as they are air fried.
- Stir the mushrooms halfway through cooking. If you are cooking more mushrooms than the recipe states, you may need to stir them a couple of additional times so that they all cook evenly.
- Air fryers can vary slightly, model to model. Check for doneness from around the 10 minute mark.
These air fryer garlic mushrooms are a quick and easy side dish that everyone needs to try! Simple enough to serve up on any night of the week, but tasty enough to serve to company!
